This eight week course has been developed to offer an insight into the Sikh religion; its history and development; what it means to be Sikh; and the beliefs, rituals and symbols of the religion.

The course is ideal for anyone else wanting to understand what Sikhism is all about, in an informal, relaxed environment.

  1. The Essence of Sikhi: A brief introduction to some of the broad concepts in Sikhi and tackling some of the misconceptions
  2. The Sikh concept of God: Looking deeper into the spiritual and theological Sikh teachings about God
  3. Life, death and the afterlife: Looking deeper into the spiritual and theological Sikh teachings about life
  4. Guru Nanak to Guru Gobind Singh – the ten Sikh Gurus: Looking at the lives and contributions of the 10 Sikh living Guru’s as well as the current Guru in scriptural form – The Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji
  5. Sikh way of life and scripture: A deeper look into Sikh scripture, rituals and traditions, meditation & prayers as well as the interplay of culture and faith.
  6. Sikhi and ethics and modern issues: Sikh views on ethical issues as well as other topics e.g. gender equality
  7. Sikhi in the 21stcentury and beyond: Traditional Sikhi, Modern Sikhi and Sikh Fundamentalism around the world as well as key events in recent history.
  8. Review, reflection and open Q&A: A summary session to review and reflect on the various topics and have an open Q&A for deeper understanding on key areas.
