Latin Summer School

15 – 26 August 2022

Enrol for both weeks: 15 – 26 August 2022 (weekdays)
OR non residential participants may enrol for both weeks or for only the first week: 15 – 19 August 2022.

Instructor: Lydia Roberts

No exams.
No knowledge of the language is presumed. By the end of the course each participant will have been introduced to:

  • All verb times in the indicative,
  • The active and passive voice,
  • Command forms,
  • All noun and adjective groups and most of their usages,
  • Reading and pronouncing original Latin texts, from ancient to modern.

We use the teaching method of Reginald Foster OCD directly from his book Ossa Latinitatis Sola, and its companion volume Ossa Ostensa Book 1 by Laura Pooley. This course covers most of the First Experience in ten weekdays.

Hours of instruction: Summer courses 2022 are intended to be held in person and hopefully accessible online as well. Our daily sessions last 3 hours with a break. Hours of instruction will be determined by 4 July to accommodate the location of on-line participants.

Text Book: Ossa Latinitatis Sola Ad Mentem Reginaldi Rationemque

Required book: Simpson, D.P. – ‘Cassell’s Latin Dictionary’ – (Macmillan, New York 1959) or equivalent, including a small English to Latin section.
